Dr. Oommen's Eye Hospital & Microsurgery Centre was started on 3rd January 2013 in response to the non availability of standard eye care in Chengannur. This hospital is situated in the heart of Chengannur and is at a stone's throw from the bus and railway stations. Dr. Oommen's Eye Hospital & Microsurgery Centre was started as a small project with two staff nurses and a single doctor. The aim of this hospital was to extend quality eye care in and around Chengannur.
Over the past one year, we have gradually expanded and currently, we have three full time doctors and two part time doctors, along with a twelve member staff including refractionists.We have our own pharmacy, laboratory, inpatient ward, operation theatre and post operative ward. We routinely perform cataract surgeries and other ophthalmic procedures. Our Outpatient Department caters to around eighty to hundred people daily. Till date, we have done around two hundred cataract surgeries and have catered to about ten thousand outpatients.We have also conducted two community eye camps and identified people with problems requiring ophthalmic aid and provided low cost treatment to them.
The response of the community towards this hospital has been overwhelmingly positive. We have been able to provide quality eye care to the people especially the middle class community.
